Drive. Park. Tap.

Turn on business driving and Kilamile notices each drive in the background. Just don't swipe it away in the app switcher.

Step 1

Drive

There's nothing to start. It saves the route as you go.

IRS Publication 463 lists these for each business use of a car, and says a record made at or near the time counts for more than one written later. It also asks for your total miles for the year, which odometer readings in the app can cover. Whether a trip is deductible depends on your situation, so ask your tax professional.

The business plan is for this

IRS mileage reports
A monthly PDF to share for signature. Each trip counts at the IRS standard mileage rate in effect on its date.
The CPA package
One file at tax time, with a summary, a spreadsheet of every trip and expense, the monthly reports and your receipt photos.
Expenses and receipts
Meals, lodging, parking and supplies, each with a photo of the receipt.
Tolls
Import a CSV or Excel statement from any agency and each toll lands on its trip. PDF statements can't be read yet, so those go in by hand.

On the driving side, Kilamile also works with Siri, a Home Screen widget and Shortcuts.

What does leave your iPhone

  • iCloud Drive backups go to your own account.
  • Map requests go to Apple, with the coordinates involved.
  • An update check goes to Expo when you open the app, with a random ID for your install.
  • What you choose to share goes where you send it.

Questions

Is running really free?

Yes. Recording workouts, maps, splits, records, streaks, share cards and GPX export are completely free.

What does the business plan cost?

The price isn't set. It gets posted here before launch, along with exactly what's in the plan. Nothing is sold during the beta.

Does the IRS approve Kilamile?

We found no IRS program that approves mileage apps. Kilamile records the date, miles, places and purpose of each business trip at the time, and keeps every later change. Whether a trip is deductible depends on you, so ask your tax professional.

What happens to my records if a plan ends?

They stay yours. Every trip, each report you already made and your backups stay readable and exportable.

Does it work on Apple Watch?

Not yet. A Watch app is in the works, with no date. For now, carry your iPhone.

How do I get it?
